Situation

Several major pharmaceutical companies were developing drugs for a newly identified target in a CV disease area with blockbuster market potentials. Drug development strategy was identified as a key differentiation factor in the market. The competitors were very close in development stages, and competition was fierce.

Decision Frame

To help the client make development plans and design trials in a highly competitive market, timely and accurate competitive intelligence is critical. Key intelligence questions included competitors’ regulatory strategy, timing, target patient population and specific trial designs.

Methodological Approach

We conducted extensive primary interviews and secondary research to answer the key intelligence questions vital to the client’s own development strategy and tactics. Specifically, we interviewed key opinion leaders who were involved in clinical trial designs, industry experts who had knowledge of the competitor development strategies, regulatory expert who was on top of the newest regulatory paths of the therapeutic area and clinical trial sites who were running the competitor trials.
